AI-native ERP
AI-native ERP built around trusted financial records
An AI-native ERP is designed so software agents can do real accounting work inside the system's own controls, instead of sitting beside it. Finovra starts with a strict double-entry ledger and adds AI on top of it, so every proposal can be checked, approved and traced.
What “AI-native” should mean
The term gets used loosely. We use it for a system where AI is a first-class user of the accounting engine: it reads through the same queries, writes through the same posting rules and is limited by the same permissions as a person, with stricter limits on top.
That design choice matters because accounting depends on records being correct and explainable. A fast draft is only helpful if an unbalanced entry can't be saved, a reported month can't be changed and every number can be traced to the entries behind it.
AI added to an ERP vs. an ERP designed for AI
A general comparison of the two approaches, not of any specific product. Implementations vary.
| Question | AI added to an existing ERP | AI-native approach (Finovra's design) |
|---|---|---|
| Where AI sits | A chat window or add-on next to an existing system, often reading exports. | Agents work through the same typed operations and permission checks as people. |
| What AI can change | Varies; some tools write straight to the books with the user's full access. | Agents can only draft. Posting, approving, reversing and period locks are reserved for people. |
| Where numbers come from | The model may summarise or calculate from text it was given. | Figures are calculated by the ledger engine; the AI explains them and cites the entries used. |
| Audit trail | AI activity may sit outside the system's audit log. | Agent drafts, approvals and rejections are recorded in the same append-only log as human actions. |
| Data model | Designed before AI, so context has to be reassembled for each request. | Every posting keeps its source and entity, so an answer can be traced back to records. |
Controls and human approval
These controls are built and tested in Finovra's ledger and API today.
- Agents draft, people decide. The API refuses posting, approval, reversal and period locks from agent accounts, and the database rejects any entry posted by an agent.
- A second person approves. Nobody can approve an entry they prepared, and a rejection must say why.
- The ledger can't be talked out of its rules. Balance checks, period locks and immutability are enforced by the database as well as the application.
- Everything is on the record. Agent and human actions land in the same append-only audit log. See close management for how this supports month-end.
What Finovra has built so far
Every module posts to the same ledger. Labels show the real state of each one; nothing below is open to customers yet.

Who it's for
Finance teams at growing US and Canadian businesses that keep books in USD or CAD, want AI help with repetitive work, and need to show an auditor or board exactly how each number was produced. Sales tax, GST/HST and provincial tax workflows are being built and will be reviewed by tax professionals before release.
Questions
- Can Finovra's AI post to our books on its own?
- No. Agent accounts can create drafts only. A person with posting rights has to approve each one, and nobody can approve their own draft.
- Is Finovra available to sign up for today?
- Not yet. The ledger engine, API and approval controls are built and tested, but the hosted product is in development. You can book a walkthrough on a demo workspace with sample data.
- Is an AI-native ERP only for large companies?
- No. Finovra is aimed at growing US and Canadian businesses that have outgrown basic bookkeeping software but don't want a long ERP implementation. Multi-entity consolidation is planned, not built.
