Accounting automation
Accounting automation that keeps a person in control
Automating accounting is only useful if the results can be trusted. Finovra automates the mechanical checks inside the ledger today and is building workflow automation for bills, bank activity and the close, with every automated step leaving evidence and every posting decision staying with a person.
What to automate, and what to keep human
A rule of thumb we design around. It is a starting point for your own controls, not accounting advice.
| Task | Good fit for automation | Keep with a person |
|---|---|---|
| Checks | Balance, period, currency and duplicate checks on every entry | Deciding what to do about an exception |
| Data entry | Extracting bill and statement details, suggesting accounts | Confirming unusual or high-value items |
| Matching | Proposing matches between bank lines and open items | Accepting low-confidence matches |
| Recurring work | Drafting accruals and reclasses from history | Approving and posting them |
| Period control | Reminding owners of open tasks | Locking and reopening periods |

The database assigns gap-free journal numbers per entity, even when entries are posted at the same moment.

Period enforcement
Entries dated in a locked period are rejected automatically.
Review routing
Drafts, including every entry from an AI agent, go to the approval queue automatically.
Audit capture
Posting, approval, rejection, reversal and period changes are recorded without anyone having to remember.
Workflow automation in development
In developmentBill capture

How an automated proposal reaches the books
- Step 1
Proposed
A rule, import or AI agent prepares a draft entry with its source attached.
- Step 2
Checked
The ledger applies the same checks as for any person's entry.
- Step 3
Reviewed
A person with approval rights approves it, or rejects it with a note.
- Step 4
Posted and recorded
The approved entry posts, gets its number and joins the audit trail.
