Finovra for Canadian businesses

Canadian entities in Finovra keep their books in Canadian dollars. That part is built. Proposed subscription pricing is in US dollars, which is separate from the currency your books are kept in. GST/HST and provincial tax workflows are planned and will be reviewed by Canadian tax professionals before release.

Canadian accounting context we design for

General background, not tax or legal advice. Confirm your obligations with a Canadian accountant.

  • The small supplier rule

Under the CRA's rules, a business generally must register for GST/HST once its worldwide taxable supplies exceed $30,000 in a single calendar quarter or over four consecutive calendar quarters. Registrants can claim input tax credits for GST/HST paid on business purchases.

  • CRA My Business Account

The CRA's online portal for businesses, used to file and pay GST/HST returns, view account balances and manage program accounts.

  • Corporate year-end

A corporation files its T2 income tax return within six months of the end of its tax year, so year-end books need to be closed and reviewed well before then.

  • ASPE and IFRS

Canadian private enterprises commonly report under Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), Part II of the CPA Canada Handbook; publicly accountable enterprises use IFRS Accounting Standards (Part I).

  • Quebec

In Quebec, Revenu Québec administers the QST and also administers the GST for most businesses in the province.
